TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi encouraged the integration of education and employment within both the industrial and business sectors. This directive was delivered during an internal meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, March 25.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said the President wanted to sharpen the major economic and employment strategies for the upcoming decade.
“The President aims to establish a cohesive system that aligns education and vocational training with the demands of the job market,” Muhadjir said when met after the meeting.
Additionally, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah highlighted the government's implementation of a labor information system through a ministerial decree and a labor market information system through Presidential Decree No. 68 of 2022.
Ida said that Jokowi's efforts to fortify the economy and employment encompass the establishment of a labor market information system and a skills transformation system to enhance market adaptability from 2024 to 2027, featuring a robust labor market information system.
The government, Ida underlined, expected Indonesian workers to be globally competitive through the adoption of three strategies. First, strengthen the workforce platform. Second, using job market information to advance a high-quality, integrated, and environmentally sustainable training ecosystem. Third, enhancing institutional capacity and project management.
“With such a restart from upstream to training, we aim to satisfy the demands of the labor market, both domestically and internationally,” said Ida.
Jokowi's term is set to conclude on October 20, 2024. President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi's eldest son, consistently emphasized the importance of continuity during their campaign.
Jokowi asserted that his vision of Golden Indonesia 2045 represents the aspiration of the Indonesian nation to transform into a sovereign, progressive, just, and prosperous nation by the year 2045.
