TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has announced the results of the 2024 general elections, including the presidential election, legislative election, and regional representative council. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian claims the 2024 elections were more peaceful than in 2019.
"I believe that 2024 [election] is calmer and more peaceful than 2019," Tito said on Wednesday evening, March 20, 2024.
Tito asked all parties to respect the election results, as winners and losers are natural in a contestation. "Objection and dissatisfaction can be expressed through other mechanisms, namely the Constitutional Court," said Tito.
Therefore, the former National Police Chief hopes that after this announcement by KPU, the national situation remain safe and under control. "We maintain [the peace], and let’s move on," said Tito.
Based on the vote recapitulation results, Prabowo-Gibran emerged as the winner in the presidential election with 58.58 percent, followed by Anies-Muhaimin with 24.95 percent of the votes. Meanwhile, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md obtained 16.45 percent votes.
In the legislative elections, three political parties received the highest votes. Those are PDIP, which received 25,387,279 votes, Golkar Party with 23,208,654 votes, and Gerindra in third place with 20,071,708 votes.
After the announcement, KPU will provide 3x24 hours for complaints or election disputes to be submitted to the Constitutional Court.
If no party submits an election dispute to the Constitutional Court, KPU will announce the legislative election results three days later on March 23.
