TEMPO.CO, Batam - A total of 10 relics of Prophet Muhammad are being exhibited at the Batam International Islamic Expo on March 15-17, at Dang Anom Park, Batam City, Riau Islands Province.
The international exhibition displays several artifacts related to the prophet, including hair, blood extracted from cupping therapy, turban pieces, sweat extract, and whip, according to the Head of Batam's Culture and Tourism Office, Ardiwinata.
"The items were collected from Yemen, Medina, and Mecca. They are all artifacts of great historical value," he said in Batam on Saturday, March 16.
Ardiwinata expressed hope that the display of the 10 relics would encourage the Muslims of Batam to further nurture their love toward Prophet Muhammad.
"This exhibition is good for school students, college students, and the public as a whole. This is the power of Islam. It is amazing that these artifacts can be collected and preserved," he stated.
According to the official, the Batam International Expo is the first to be held in the city.
"Usually, Batam hosts exhibitions that highlight either tourism, investment, trade, or products of micro, small and medium enterprises. Now, the city hosts a religious expo for the first time ever," he pointed out.
In this regard, he invited the people of Batam to participate in the international exhibition held as part of the Batam Wonderfood Ramadan and Arts Festival.
Muhammad Agung, a member of the organizing committee, said that the 10 relics of Prophet Muhammad were brought from a heritage gallery in Malaysia and had been exhibited in several regions in Indonesia.
The authenticity of the 10 relics had been verified by several clerics, he said.
People interested in visiting the exhibition will have to pay Rp 50,000 as a contribution to the development of a building for an Islamic boarding school.
