US President Joe Biden Congratulates Prabowo on Lead in Vote Count

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Joe Biden has finally extended his congratulatory letter to Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto for leading in the vote count in the February presidential election.
Prabowo said in his Instagram post on Thursday evening, March 14, that Biden conveyed his remarks via an official letter delivered directly by the US Ambassador to ASEAN Yohannes Abraham.
“I am deeply honored to receive a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Joe Biden, for the lead in the Presidential vote count,” he wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of the letter from Biden. He also thanked Abraham for delivering the letter.
The Gerindra Party patron chief said that he and Biden are committed to strengthening the historical bond between the two countries through further cooperation while celebrating the diplomatic relations that have existed for 75 years.
In a letter dated March 12, 2024, Biden congratulated the Indonesian people and Prabowo on the successful election which took place on February 14.
“I want to extend my congratulations to the people of Indonesia on a successful election, testament to our shared commitment to democracy, and to you (Prabowo) for your lead in the presidential vote count,” Biden wrote.
Biden congratulated Prabowo days before the KPU is scheduled to announce the final election results on March 20, 2024. “I look forward to the announcement of the official results,” he added.
“We are stronger and the world is safer when Indonesia and the United States stand together,” US President Joe Biden also said.
