TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono confirmed that the Toll Road Business Enterprises (BUJT) will be offering discounts on toll rates during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“Inshallah, there will be discounts to regulate traffic,” Basuki told journalists at the PUPR Ministry office in Jakarta on March 13.
Several toll road authorities granted discounts on toll road rates during certain periods, such as the holiday season of Eid, Christmas, and New Year. These discounts are intended to help smooth traffic flow and reduce people's travel costs, as well as promote tourism.
However, the discounts on toll road rates are usually applied at specific hours outside peak homecoming traffic to encourage the use of toll roads during non-peak hours and curb congestion.
Basuki said that to date, no BUJT has proposed the implementation of toll rate discounts, but he confirmed that the discount would be applied during this year’s Eid holiday.
The Transportation Policy Agency of the Transportation Ministry predicted that about 193.6 million people will be traveling for the Eid homecoming in 2024. In a press release on March 12, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the figure increased from last year's 123.8 million homecomers.
