TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Anto Satriyo Nugroho assessed that the existence of artificial intelligence (AI) has an integral role as one of the smart defenses for state security, especially in the Nusantara Capital City or IKN.
"First, as a tool that can help decisions in organizational governance, personal, budget, and logistics management. Second, military operational information systems, and third, as tools for the application of weapon system technology," Anto said in a written statement on Thursday.
However, on the other hand, Anto considers that the increasing penetration of internet connections could lead to security threats. "Internet penetration rate in Indonesia rapidly increasing each year. Currently, almost 79.5 percent of Indonesia's population is connected to the internet," he said.
According to him, IKN, which is located in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, raises challenges in defense strategy planning which allows for the threats to multiply or change forms. IKN has different spatial relations, landscapes, and characteristics of coastal and marine waters, from Jakarta.
Regarding the defense system in IKN, the Director of Defense, Security, and Geography Studies of Lemhanas Rolland D.G. Waha said that Indonesia's defense concept must follow the geographical conditions in Indonesia which will determine the main weapon system needed. "Design the smart defense based on what we have, not what others have," he said.
