TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The development of National Data Centres (PDNs) and the new capital city Nusantara (IKN) highlighted the government's commitment to optimizing technology to support environmental sustainability, according to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.
Deputy Minister Nezar Patria stated that PDNs have been developed with technologies enabling them to use renewable energies.
"The PDN development in Cikarang, West Java, had been certified as a green data centre for its solar panels, LED lighting, and evaporative cooling system," Patria noted, as per the written statement received on Saturday.
The same commitment has also been demonstrated through the development of Nusantara City as a smart city, where internet connectivity is optimized for its daily operations, he said.
"The adoption of Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology in all public services helps us in reducing carbon emission," the deputy minister noted.
Patria said that sustainable development sought by his side is consistent with the principles of various ethnic groups in Indonesia, for instance, with the Dayak people's statement of "Adil Ka' Talino, Bacuramin Ka' Saruga, Basengat Ka' Jubata" that means "To be fair to fellow humans, to reflect the heaven, and that the breath of life comes from the Creator."
"With the inspiration from the local wisdom, I invite all of us to continue contributing to maintaining the environment as the living space for us and for the future generations to grow," the deputy minister said.
According to Patria, the use of digital technology is in line with sustainable development, as it allows for energy efficiency and circular design.
He also highlighted that digital technology allows for decarbonization in strategic industries, such as logistics, manufacturing, farming, energy, and construction, which helps reduce global CO2 emissions by 20 percent.
The official also expressed hope that digitalization for sustainability will allow the government to contribute to addressing climate change effects and supporting environmental sustainability.
