1. Malaysia and Indonesia See EUDR as Detrimental to CPO Exports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Both Indonesia and Malaysia are of the view that the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) will harm their economic interests as major producers and exporters of crude palm oil (CPO).

“Malaysia and Indonesia should voice their concern about our nation’s economic interest and that the (European Union’s) deforestation regulation (is intended to) restrict the import of our palm oil to their countries,” Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Hasan said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

2. Google Says Disappointed over KPPU's Monopoly Allegation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google representatives in Indonesia have expressed disappointment over the Business Competition Supervisory Commission’s (KPPU) allegation of monopoly practices.

“The KPPU's decision to proceed [the allegation] to the filing stage is disappointing,” Google's representative in Indonesia said in a written message to Tempo on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

3. BMKG Forecasts Downpour in Central Java Amid Spike in Flooding

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java is among the regions with the potential for heavy rain with lightning and strong winds today, Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Several heavy flooding has hit a number of areas in the province on Monday and Tuesday after persistent downpours for three consecutive days.

According to BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), the heavy rain potential would occur in the mountainous area, and the western to the central area of the northern coastal area (pantura). The rain would fall "in the afternoon - evening", the agency forecasted.
