TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google representatives in Indonesia have expressed disappointment over the Business Competition Supervisory Commission’s (KPPU) allegation of monopoly practices.
“The KPPU's decision to proceed [the allegation] to the filing stage is disappointing,” Google's representative in Indonesia said in a written message to Tempo on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
The KPPU has completed its investigation into the tech giant, which was indicated as using its dominant position to suppress the market through the implementation of Google Play Billing. The case has been in the filing stage and could proceed to the trial process.
The Google representatives, who asked not to be named, said they were disappointed because the KPPU ignored the value of Google Play's support for Indonesian developers, such as improving the skills of the developers and instantly connecting their apps to a global audience.
“This decision also rejects our initiative to actively discuss a series of proposals to address their concerns in a way that does not weaken the security of apps in Play Store,” the Google representatives claimed.
Despite the disappointment, Google has stated that it will continue to communicate with the KPPU and support the legal process.
“As a responsible player in the local ecosystem, we remain committed to supporting developers with tools and features that help them build successful apps and businesses while ensuring a safe and trusted experience for all users on Play Store,” the Google representatives concluded.
