TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political Observer from Skala Data Indonesia Arif Nurul Imam said that the fifth presidential debate with the theme of social welfare, culture, education, information technology, health, manpower, human resources, and inclusion, was anticlimactic. Each presidential candidate has exhausted their ammunition, especially to correct Prabowo Subianto.
"Especially presidential candidates number one and three which so often corrected number two. All of their ammo has been presented in the previous debates," Arif told Tempo on Sunday.
Arif said Ganjar Pranowo, running candidate number three, was more aggressive than the others. He believed this was Ganjar's strategy to tap into 28 percent of undecided and swing voters' potential.
"The offensive will attract these voters since they are more critical," he said.
"I believe the clash between PDIP and [President Joko Widodo] is open now, as seen from Megawati's statement and a number of PDIP high-ranking officials. It's been made clear with this debate where Ganajr Pranowo was more active in correcting Prabowo Subianto's ideas," he added.
Prabowo Subianto was agreeable during last night's debate, a divergence from previous ones where he actively attacked his rival Anies Baswedan.
Meanwhile, Ganjar touched on Mahfud Md's decision to resign from his ministerial position, claiming his vice presidential partner avoided a "conflict of interest, to establish integrity".
