TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch or ICW launched the digital platform RekamJejak.net to understand the track records of legislative candidates ahead of the general elections.
ICW researcher Tibiko Zabar cited the data of the Corruption Eradication Commission from 2004 until July 2023 that over 344 corruption cases involved members of the (House of Representatives). Hence, this platform emerged to highlight to the candidates' track records.
"So we, as voters, do not elect the wrong person," he told Tempo on Wednesday.
According to Tibiko, ICW cooperated with other independent agencies such as the Commission of Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) and Auriga, a non-profit organization concerning the environment. They also provided an analysis of the legislative candidate's track record.
"What differentiates [RekamJejak.net] from other similar platforms is we take notes of which candidates have been charged with corruption before," he said.
The platform can be accessed by everyone for free. Users can gain information on the candidate's brief profile, political and employment history, family and business affiliation, position, statement on drafting problematic regulations, and wealth reports among others.
"For example what was their position on the Job Creation Bill, or the Criminal Code Bill," he said.
The platform currently houses the track records of over 500 legislative candidates at the DPR level. "Due to limited resources, we are unable to provide information on DPRD candidates at city and regency level," Tibiko said.
Tibiko hoped the information broadcasted on the platform help voters decide wisely which candidate to vouch for.
