TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of communication and public service bureau of the Health Ministry Nadia Tarmizi Wiweko said that the ministry has carried out promotive and preventive measures to ensure no more loss of lives for the voting organizing group or KPPS during the upcoming general elections.

"Health screening for potential KPPS officers under 55 years old by BPJS (the Indonesian health insurance administration body) can be conducted with supervision by medical personnel," she said on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

In addition to the close attention to past medical records, Nadia said the Health Ministry also promotes enough sleep, eating and drinking well, and exercise for KPPS officers.

Nadia also explained that the ministry instructed for 24-hour medical facilities and Emergency Hospital to be open on February 14 and 15. A Public Safety Center and a referral system are on standby to anticipate any health issues while KPPS officers are conducting their duties.

As previously reported, hundreds of KPPS officers died during the 2019 general elections. In total, said the KPU Secreatry-General Arif Rahman Hakim, 3,788 officers fell sick while 440 died.

According to Arif back in May 2019, these officers were spread across 30 provinces, with as many as 111 officers dying in West Java, 39 in East Java, and 62 in Central Java.

The General Elections Commission allocated Rp50 billion to compensate the officers who dies and fallen sick.
