TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) of Jakarta is planning to recruit 215,362 people as part of the voting organizing group or KPPS. The recruitment period is open from Monday up until Dec. 20, 2023.
"We report that our polling stations are standing by and ready to conduct open recruitment for KPPS members on [Monday] until 20th of December," said the head of KPU Jakarta Wahyu Dinata in his office in Central Jakarta on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023.
In Jakarta, there are 30,766 polling stations prepared for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Additionally, Wahyu said that Jakarta also prepared medical facilities in each polling station to anticipate the incidents that occurred in the 2019 general elections, where KPPS members fell sick and even passed away due to exhaustion.
The Coordinator of the Human Resources Division of KPU Parsadaan Harahap explained that potential members of KPPS must go through medical check ups as part of the registration requirements.
"At least the examination concerning hypertension, cholesterol, and diabetes," he said.
Learning from the previous general elections, KPU is now obliged to be aware of the health or comorbid condition of each potential member of KPPS. "The result of the recommendation, seminar, studies, discussion, and evaluation on the 2019 general elections found that [KPPS members] who passed away and fell sick was due to comorbid," said Parsadaan.
