TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry announced that only registered users will be able to purchase subsidized 3 kg LPG canisters starting from January 1, 2024.
Tutuka Ariadji, director general of oil and gas at the ESDM Ministry, urged people to register themselves immediately. “People only need to present their identity card (KTP) and family card (KK) at official dealers or distributors,” he said in a press statement on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
He explained that collecting data on 3-kg LPG consumers was aimed at ensuring that the subsidy is right on target. He assured that state-owned gas and oil giant Pertamina would guarantee the security of consumers' personal data on the Pertamina merchant app under Law No. 27 of 2022 on the Protection of Personal Data.
The data collection started from March 1 to December 31, 2023. As of November 2023, about 27.8 million users were recorded on the app or at official distributors.
Tutuka also said that the data collection on users was a follow-up to the 2023 Financial Note, in which the government is committed to transforming the subsidy into one based on 'by name by address' and gradually integrating it with social protection programs.
“The distribution of 3-kg LPG cylinders needs to be targeted because it is a vital commodity according to the Presidential Regulation No. 71 of 2015,” Tutuka said.
He added that the target users of the subsidized 3-kg LPG canisters include households for cooking, micro-enterprises for cooking, fishermen, and farmers based on Presidential Regulation No. 104 of 2007 and Presidential Regulation No. 38 of 2019.
