Police Name Ghisca Debora Suspect in Rp5.1bn Coldplay Ticket Scam

21 November 2023 11:28 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaChief of Central Jakarta Police Sr. Comr. Susatyo Purnomo Condro confirmed that Ghisca Debora Aritonang was named as a suspect in the Coldplay ticket scam on Friday, November 17. The police received six reports of the fraud with a total loss reaching Rp5.1 billion or 2,268 tickets.

Susatyo explained that the 19-year-old girl joined the ‘ticket war’ in mid-May. “She offered the tickets to her friends and colleagues as a reseller of the promised complimentary tickets,” he said in a press statement at the Central Jakarta Police HQ on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Police have thus far collected pieces of evidence, including branded goods such as shoes, bags, laptops, and smartphones which were purchased between May and November 2023, amounting to Rp600 million.

“The remaining Rp2 billion was spent for personal use,” Susatyo added.

Police are still investigating the flow of the remaining funds, including the reports that the money was flown to the Netherlands and other countries. Susatyo confirmed that Ghisca had traveled to the Netherlands between May and November 2023 based on her passport information.

Police would also continue to investigate the ticket scam.

Ghisca Debora Aritonang was arrested on Friday, November 17, 2023. She is charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code on fraud in conjunction with Article 372 of the Criminal Code, each of which carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

Reports of Coldplay ticket scams flooded the Jakarta Police following the Coldplay concert on November 15, 2023, which was the British band fronted by Chris Martin's first-ever show in Indonesia.

The Central Jakarta Police received the highest number of cases. The actual number of cases is believed to be higher than reported because similar cases reported long before the Coldplay concert were not counted.
