ESDM Ministry Rejects House Proposal for New Renewable Energy Fund Management Agency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif rejected the House of Representatives' proposal to create a new renewable energy (NRE) fund management agency, set to be included in the NRE Bill. According to Arifin, Presidential Regulation No. 97 of 2021 on MRE ministry provided that the implementation of NRE policies falls under the authority of the ministry.
"The government proposed to not regulate the formation of a new NRE fund management agency in the NRE Bill," he said during a working meeting with Commission VII of DPR this Monday.
In fact, Arifin added, the government already formed a budget management agency based on new renewable energy, such as the Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency and the Indonesian Environment Fund.
The Indonesian government, Arifin remarked, must simplify its bureaucracy to create a more dynamic one.
"In response to the House of Representative's proposal, the government heeds the President's [Joko Widodo] instruction for bureaucracy simplification and agency regulation as well as existing provisions that govern the implementation of NRE policies by the MRE Ministry," Arifin concluded.
