Police Assure That U-17 World Cup Security Measures to Meet FIFA Standards

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police (Polri) has expressed its readiness to secure the U-17 World Cup football championship, which will take place in four Indonesian cities, with security measures that meet FIFA standards.

"We have carried out a tactical floor game (TFC) with participants from central-level operations apparatus and the regional security (Pamwil) task force to strengthen their readiness to secure the U-17 World Cup," said head of the Polri's public information bureau, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

According to him, the National Police will carry out a centralized operation named "Aman Becuya 2023" to secure the U-17 World Cup.

The operation will involve 13,246 Polri personnel from the National Police headquarters and 4 regional police forces and will be held from November 10 to December 4, 2023, Ramadhan added.

"On November 9, there will be a roll call for the '2023 Aman Becuya' personnel at the 4 regional police offices where the U-17 World Cup will take place, while the opening will be held in Surabaya, East Java," he informed.

The regional police offices are the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), East Java Polda, Central Java Polda, and West Java Polda.

According to him, the operation will be led by Polri's head of criminal investigation, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada. Meanwhile, the operation at each regional police office will be led by its regional police chief.

The security will be in accordance with FIFA standards, for instance, there will be no uniformed personnel in the stadium and no tear gas will be used, he informed.

"In the stadium, there will be no personnel wearing police uniforms, but some might be wearing a steward vest. This is in accordance with FIFA regulations," he said.

The U-17 FIFA World Cup will be held in four cities — Jakarta, Solo, Bandung, and Surabaya — from November 10 to December 2.

The opening ceremony will take place at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) in Surabaya on November 10. The stadium will also be the home base of the Indonesian U-17 National Team in group A for the preliminary round.

Three other stadiums will host the championship: Jakarta International Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), and Manahan Stadium (Solo).
