MK Honorary Council to Announce Anwar Usman Decision This Afternoon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Honorary Council of the Constitutional Court (MK) will announce their decision on the alleged ethics code violation by Anwar Usman, Chief Judge of MK, and the other eight MK Judges this afternoon, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 04:00 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
The MK Judges were reported to the council for alleged violation of the MK Ethics Code for their decision on case No. 90/PUU-XXI/2023 concerning the presidential and vice presidential age limit. In total, 21 reports were received by the MK Honorary Council, 15 of which related to Anwar Usman specifically.
The Chief of the MK Honorary Council Jimly Asshiddiqie confirmed that the decision will be announced today after a plenary session at 01:00 p.m. WIB.
When asked about the change in venue from Building 2 to Building 1 of MK, Jimly said that it was to facilitate more people, since the decision hearing will be open to the public. "So you may come to the hearing," he said.
The plenary session, Tempo found in the summon letter of the decision hearing, will be conducted offline and online. All 21 applicants are invited to attend the hearing since the council will answer each report it received regarding the case.
Earlier, Jimly Asshiddiqie revealed three potential sanctions for Anwar Usman and other MK Judges if a violation is found. These sanctions are reprimand, warning, and termination.
