TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al-Shun, expressed his gratitude to Indonesia for its unwavering support to Palestine during the conflict with Israel. He conveyed this in front of journalists at the Palestinian Embassy in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

“Thank you, Indonesia and everyone. Inshallah (If God wills), we pray that Palestine will be independent,” he said, concluding his statement following this week's escalation of the conflict.

Earlier in the press conference, he spoke about the visit of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Secretary General, Hasto Kristiyanto, to the Palestinian Embassy, which emphasized the position of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's government which called for an immediate end to the violence to avoid further human casualties.

Zuhair also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's hard work to support Palestine in high-level diplomacy, mentioning Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi's call for collective responsibility to help the Palestinian and Afghan people at the 78th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September 2023.

Recently, on Sunday, Oct. 8, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also voiced its concerns over the escalation of the conflict between Palestine and Israel via X, formerly Twitter.

In its tweet, the ministry stated that the root of the conflict, which is Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories, must be resolved in accordance with the parameters agreed upon by the UN.
