The mandate was delivered by the ministry's Acting Head for Public Service Agency for Museums and Cultural Heritage Ahmad Mahendra through a press release on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
"In accordance with the Minister [Nadiem Makarim] instruction, the incident is momentum for us to change the [management] of National Museu for the better towards an international museum standard," he said in his written statement.
Earlier that day, Nadiem visited the museum to inspect the evacuation area and accompanied the 5th Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri. He also visited the museum before to inspect the condition of the National Museum post-fire.
The ministry ensured transparency on the list of collections damaged in the fire. However, any measures on the collection awaited the investigation result by the Forensic Laboratory Center.
Meanwhile, police tightened security at the National Museum three days after the fire. Tempo's observation in the scene found that the museum has limited activities from Tuesday morning to afternoon. Police lines are still blocking the back entry to the museum. Several firefighters were seen guarding the entry, while fire trucks have not moved from their position in front of the museum's back entry since last Saturday.
