Megawati Visits National Museum Post Fire

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Fifth President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri visited the National Museum on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 3 p.m. local time which is under tight security in the wake of the fire.
The National Museum in Central Jakarta, known as Museum Gajah, caught ablaze on Saturday evening, September 16, 2023. Megawati came into the museum in a black Alphard car.
Prior to Megawati’s visit, the police’s mobile brigade (Brimob) secured the areas around the museum. Apart from that, the police also beefed up the security inside the museum by deploying more personnel.
There is no information yet regarding the purpose of the visit of the National Research and Innovation Agency’s (BRIN) Steering Committee chairperson to the National Museum.
The leader of the ruling party PDIP was at the National Museum for about 45 minutes. She was seen leaving the museum area at around 3:47 p.m. local time.
As previously reported, Ahmad Mahendra as Acting Head of the Museums and Cultural Heritage Agency restricted public activities and visits to the National Museum. Only the police, forensic laboratory staff, curators, conservators, and Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU) personnel were allowed to enter the museum area after the fire occurred.
