TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian badminton ace Jonatan Christie managed to secure the finals slot in the Hong Kong Open 2023. He is the third Indonesian representative that advanced to the finals.
Jonatan, or known as Jojo, was in a tight battle against Malaysia's Ng Tze Yong on September 16 before advancing to the final.
Jojo played for one hour and 24 minutes and was able to defeat his opponent with the scores of 21-19, 21-23, 21-13, or he won 3-1.
In the finals on Sunday, September 15, Jojo has the opportunity to meet other Indonesian players. An all-Indonesian final is possible if Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is able to defeat Kenta Nishimoto (Japan).
Jojo is the third athlete from Indonesia that went to the finals. Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin advanced to the final by defeating Lee Yang / Wang Chi-Lin, the eighth seed from Taiwan, with a score of 13-21, 21-8, and 21-13. Apriyani Rahayu / Siti Fadia Silvia Ramdhanti also escaped by defeating Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen, from Denmark, with a score of 21-16, 23-21.
Two other Indonesian representatives, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, failed.
