TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said that India is the biggest tourism investor in Indonesia during the ASEAN Investment Forum. The event was held on September 2-3, 2023.
"The investment realization is being calculated, but there are already several delightful investment commitments from India," he said when met on Monday evening, September 4, 2023.
He explained that while initially, India was not a prominent investor, India recorded the second-highest number of tourists in Bali following Australia. Thus, India saw a great opportunity to invest in the tourism and creative economy sector in Indonesia.
Bali, Sandiaga added, is still the biggest tourism investment destination. The position is followed by Labuan Bajo, Borobudur, Lombok, and Lake Toba.
After India, the second biggest tourism investor in Indonesia is the Uni Arab Emirates. Sandiaga said that the UAE is highly interested in investing in the five super-priority destinations in Indonesia, namely Lake Toba, Mandalika, Borobudur, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.
Previously, Sandiaga has invited ASEAN's youth to safeguard sustainable investment. He said that the world is trying to build up economic recovery after the difficult situation post-Covid-19 pandemic.
Additionally, the minister mentioned that Indonesia has several programs open to collaboration and cooperation for future business leaders, from tourism villages and creative economy to digital entrepreneurship.
