TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotejo said the venue for the U-17 World Cup 2023 opening ceremony is still in discussion. The minister and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) are also waiting for FIFA's assessment of the preparation of several stadiums.

Minister Dito said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, that FIFA still has to inspect the condition and eligibility of stadiums in Indonesia to host the matches. "The assessment will be reported back to PSSI and the ministry," said Dito.

Meanwhile, Dito admitted that he had received aspirations to choose Jakarta as the U-17 World Cup opening venue. However, the decision will be in FIFA's hands. "We want to hold it in Jakarta, but we are still waiting for the assessment on all arenas," said Dito.

For the venue of the final match and closing ceremony, PSSI submitted Surakarta as the host city. "PSSI appointed Solo since that's the initial plan for the U-20 World Cup," said Minister Dito.

The minister also talked about the possibility of hosting the matches outside of Java. He revealed that while it is possible, the budget and players' accessibility means the biennial event will be focused on Java. "Since it's U-17 and also related to the budget and accessibility, it is more likely to host it in Java. But we are still waiting for FIFA's statement.

Quoting PSSI's statement, FIFA will inspect stadiums in four cities, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Surakarta from July 29 to August 2, 2023. FIFA inspected Jakarta International Stadium last Saturday and immediately headed to ABC Field in the GBK Stadium complex, Madya Stadium, Hoki Field in the GBK Stadium complex, and Soemantri Brodjonegoro Stadium in Jakarta. FIFA also headed to Bandung and inspected ITB Field, Sidolig Field, Batununggal Field, IPDN Field, Unpad Field, Arcamanik Field, and Si Jalak Harupat Field.

On Monday, FIFA visited Surabaya to inspect G10N Field, Thor Field, and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium. Lastly, FIFA headed to Surakarta today to inspect Blulukan Field, Banyuany ar Field, UNS Field, Kampung Sewu Field, Sriwedari Field, Sriwaru Field, Kotabarat Field, and Manahan Stadium.

The entourage will head back to Jakarta on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, to discuss their assessment with PSSI.
