Papua Regional Police Examine Homeyo Police Members Amid Firearms Theft Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Head of Papua Regional Police Brigadier General Ramdani Hidayat said that the Bureau of Internal Profession and Security (Propam) has examined the members of Homeyo Sectoral Police concerning the firearms theft by Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Homeyo, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. 

"From the report, one Homeyo Sectoral Police has been examined and asked and we possibly summon more police members to be examined," said Ramdani Hidayat in Jayapura, on Monday, July 24, 2023.

Ramdani said that the National Police's organic firearms stored at the Homeyo Sectoral Police were reported missing on Saturday, July 16, 2023, stolen by the KKB. The next day on Sunday, July 17, 2023, KKB shot at the Sectoral Police and Military Headquarters in Homeyo. 

On Monday, July 18, 2023, KKB opened fire at a Smart Air plane which bought seven members of the Cartenz Peace Task Force deployed to guard the Homeyo Sectoral Police, Ramdani added.

"No casualties in the incident and the plane flew back safely to Nabire," said Ramdani Hidayat.

The organic firearms taken by the KKB were SS1 rifles along with their ammunition inside. The Homeyo Sectoral Police Department is located 15 minutes away from Sugapa, the capital of the Intan Jaya Regency.
