TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia AirAsia Airlines recorded a significant hike in the number of passengers throughout 2023 with 6.18 million people, a 90.27 percent increase compared to the previous year with 3.24 million passengers.
"The entire Indonesian aviation industry is starting to recover from its downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic, as is Indonesia AirAsia, " said the President Director of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Yosephine Sinaga in a written statement on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
The surge in passengers is followed by the increase of load factor to 85 percent from the previous year’s 79 percent. As of April 2024, Indonesia AirAsia has served 33 routes, including 12 domestic ones and 21 international routes covering ASEAN and Australia. "This helps the efforts of the Indonesian government to improve air travel connectivity and facilitate passengers in traveling to various destinations at affordable prices," she said.
Skytrax also records the positive trends of Indonesia AirAsia in terms of revenue in its best low-cost airline in the world. Indonesia AirAsia has recorded a 75.24 percent year-on-year (yoy) rise in revenue to Rp6.62 trillion in 2023. "PT AirAsia Indonesia (AAID/CMPP) recorded a significant increase in financial performance throughout 2023 and has proven to experience growth compared to 2022," she said.
This growth, she said, was supported by the 24 aircraft operating during 2023. Based on the report, AAID/CMPP assets in 2023 were recorded at Rp6.12 trillion, growing 14.17 percent, while AAID/CMPP liabilities reached Rp14.02 trillion, up 15.17 percent year-on-year (yoy).
Indonesia AirAsia experienced a loss of Rp702.62 billion in 2023 while recording Rp7.33 trillion in operating expenses. Compared to 2022, the 43.79 percent increase in operating expenses was mainly due to the rising fuel costs and the depreciation of the rupiah exchange rate. "The addition of aircraft to meet increasing demand also has an impact on rising fuel use," he said.
