TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of Sukabumi Police's Investigation and Criminal Unit has arrested four women. The women, all of whom are residents of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, are believed to be part of a human trafficking syndicate.
"These four suspects are from two different human trafficking cases," Sukabumi Regional Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Maruly Pardede said on Monday, 17 July.
Suspects Dl (55) and AT (42), he said, were arrested based on a police report filed to the West Java Provincial Police on June 27, 2023. Two other suspects, Ni (39) and El (43), were arrested following a police report filed on July 3.
Maruly said that DI and AT are suspected of committing human trafficking crimes in November 2022 in Kampung Halimun of Warungkiara District/Village. They allegedly recruited 27-year-old AN, a resident of Kampung Halimun, offering her to work in Dubai as a migrant worker. After arriving in Dubai, AN was instead sent to work in Syria, where she was never paid the amount promised by the suspects. AN told her family, who then filed the police report.
Ni and El used similar methods and trafficked Sr (33) and Er (41)—residents of Kampung Gobang, Pasirsuren Village, Palabuhanratu District, Sukabumi Regency—also in November 2022. The suspects promised to send the victims to work in Malaysia, where SR was abused and treated poorly while Er was forced to work without pay.
Likewise, the victims told their families about the situation, and their families filed the report.
The four suspects are now facing a prison sentence of 15 years and a fine of Rp600 million.
