TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta DPRD's head of Commission D, Ida Mahmudah, said the commission will visit RT 17 RW 04 of Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan District, where residents are living on top of garbage piles. The PDIP politician encourages the Jakarta Regional Government to provide rental apartments or rusunawa as proper housing for the residents.
"I'll make an appointment with the local office to visit the location," Ida said on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Ida said that the condition of the residents of Muara Kapuk shows how urgent it is to procure low-cost flats in Jakarta, which she said could be the solution to the increasingly unavailable and expensive land prices in the capital.
"Commission D always encourages the government to build flats as opposed to zero down payment houses of any other housing program," she said.
Ida said there were several facilities to relocate the resident of Muara Kapuk who lived above the trash. One of them, she said, is the Nagrak flat in Cilincing, North Jakarta.
"Right now there are plenty of empty units at the rusunawa in Nagrak, Cilincing," said Ida, while admitting that the building lacks proper facilities, such as being located far from the city center and not perfectly integrated by public transportation.
The residents of RT 17 RW 04 in Kapuk Muara, have been living on a pile of garbage for decades. Ana (32), who told Tempo that she has been living there since 2001, said that the lack of waste disposal facilities made residents resorted to dumping their trash under their houses.
Edy Mulyanto, head of North Jakarta's Environment Agency, said that they will immediately find a solution to the problem. He said that the office is coordinating with the neighborhood chiefs of Penjaringan, "to carry out integrated waste cleaning," Edy said Saturday, July 1.
