Nickel Company Highlights Indonesia's Role in Electric Vehicle Industry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The president director of nickel mining and processing firm Trimegah Bangun Persada Roy A. Arfandy stated on Friday, June 16, 2023, that his company remains optimistic that Indonesia will have a key role in the electric vehicle battery industry. His assurance is built upon the abundance of domestic nickel resources and its growing downstream industy.
Also on Friday, June 16, 2023, Trimegah Bangun Persada (NCKL) through its associate entity Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) inaugurated its official 5,584 tons nickel sulfate export to China.
“In the future, our company will continue to meet nickel sulfate production demands of four shipping vessels,” he said.
Roy asserted that the company is aiming for nickel sulfate exports of up to 240,000 tons annually, which is in accordance with the factory's production capacity. The first export of nickel sulfate is deemed an important step for Indonesia to become a key player in the electric vehicle battery industry in the future and is also expected to boost regional and national economies.
The nickel sulfate refined at the company’s plant in Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku Province will be used in the production of lithium batteries with high nickel content. The use of this type of lithium battery is predicted to continue to increase, especially in the electric vehicle industry.
