TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD revealed the existence of a possible terrorism modus operandi in East Java that sees bomb assembling covered as sajdah (prayer rug) business worth billions of Rupiah in transactions.
Mahfud spilled this information as he gave a speech at the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) main headquarters digital literacy movement event on June 13, 2023.
He also claims the number of suspicious transactions was detected by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and were eventually deemed to be implicated in alleged terrorist activities.
“The money wired amounted to the billions but there was no feedback. The company sent sajdah,” said Mahfud MD. “After tracing the sources, it led to activities of bomb assembly and things related to it.”
According to the Head of the Money Laundering Committee, there are signs that a country has financed cyberattacks meant for surveillance or extracting information. “In here we have personal data leaked in the Bjorka case. Phone calls between the President and State Ministers have leaked. There was also the Wikileaks case. This can be much more formidable than those cases.”
