TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has started to improve its young players’ coaching program after the organization’s chairperson Erick Thohir said that preparing the national team’s future must be done as soon as possible.
Erick explained that this is the main reason why the under-16 league or U-16 squad will undergo a selection process before being sent to Doha, Qatar to train at the Aspire Academy for several months.
“Surely, in building a national team we can’t rest on our laurels with the U-20 and U-22. This is why we have to develop U-17,” said Erick in Jakarta on May 30.
Erick said that the PSSI will try several coaching methods for its young players such as the Primavera and SAD Uruguay. Currently, there are 56 U-16 players who are taking part in the selection led directly by Bima Sakti.
Upon initiating the program, Erick Thohir brought five world soccer legends to Indonesia that comprises Marco Materazzi, Juan Sebastian Veron, Roberto Carlos, Eric Abidal, and Giorgos Karagounis. His motivation behind this is to help motivate Indonesia’s young football athletes.
