Sandiaga Uno Not In PKS Party's VP Candidate Shortlist

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) deputy chairperson Sohibul Iman made it clear that Sandiaga Uno, who currently assumes the position of Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, is not included in the Party’s shortlist of vice presidential candidates to accompany presidential candidate Anies Baswedan. 

“He will not [be on the list],” said Sohibul to journalists in South Jakarta on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. 

The Tourism Minister recently mentioned in talks about potential VP candidates to accompany Anies Baswedan in the 2024 Presidential Election. The rumor was built upon the closeness of Sandiaga and PKS after he resigned from Gerindra. 

Sohibul also denied that the Party had solicited Sandiaga Uno to become a member of the party and claimed that it was the Tourism Minister who initially showed interest in becoming a PKS member. He insisted that PKS as a political party is open to communicating with anyone.

The Tourism Minister has also emerged in the radars of another religious-based political party PPP, which had even openly announced its readiness to endorse Sandiaga Uno as a VP candidate alongside PDIP’s presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo. So far, talks about Sandiaga Uno joining PPP to leverage his position in the upcoming presidential election remain as a mere discussion.
