Police Name 2 Suspects for Alleged Human Trafficking of 20 Indonesians to Myanmar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police have named two suspects in the human trafficking of 20 Indonesian citizens to Myanmar to work as online scammers. They are Anita Setia Dewi and Andri Satria Nugraha.
The suspect naming is determined after the case was filed on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. The two are reported by relatives of the victim Nurhaida on May 2, 2023. They are suspected of trafficking people abroad or placing migrant workers abroad without according to the procedure.
“Anita Setia Dewi and Andri Satria Nugraha are named suspects,” said the Police’s Director of General Crimes Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro in an official statement, Tuesday, May 9.
Djuhandhani said both of them violated the alleged criminal act of human trafficking, namely Article 4 of Law No. 21 of 2007 on human trafficking and Article 81 of Law No. 18 of 2017 on the protection of Indonesian migrant workers.
“Investigators are looking for and arresting the perpetrators, and exploring the possibility of whether there are other suspects,” Djuhandhani said.
The victim's family accompanied by the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) reported this case to the National Police on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. SBMI chairperson Hariyanto Suwarno believed that the two perpetrators suspected of being part of the international trade networks are operating in the Greater Jakarta area.
