TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotejo is relieved with FIFA's decision to freeze funding for the Indonesian football association or PSSI as a punishment for refusing entry to the Israeli team for the U-20 World Cup, which has subsequently led to the stripping of Indonesia's hosting rights for the tournament. The minister said the funding sanction is not as harsh as being frozen from international football.
Dito said that the restriction on the use of FIFA Forward funds—until further notice—will not interfere with the soccer competition agenda in Indonesia.
The minister said that in this year's FIFA Forward 3.0 program, FIFA disbursed US$5 million to be distributed to developing countries. He said he did not know the amount of funds frozen for Indonesia.
The Sports Ministry, he added, will have a meeting with PSSI to discuss the impact of the FIFA Forward fund freeze.
