Tropical Cyclone Herman to Affect Weather in Indonesia: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Friday announced that it is still observing the movement of tropical cyclone Herman over the Indian Ocean south of Banten, which is said to move east-southeast away from Indonesia. 

This system forms a wind speed deceleration area (convergence) from the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu to the south of West Java. BMKG estimates that the intensity will decrease even further today.

However, BMKG predicts the weather will have an indirect effect today as it pointed to the potential for heavy to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds in Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta.

Another convergence area also extends from the Indian Ocean west of North Sumatra to South Sumatra. Also from West Kalimantan to East Kalimantan, in the Java Sea, from the Sulu Sea to the Sulawesi Sea, from the Flores Sea to the Maluku Sea, and in the Arafuru Sea.

Wind confluence areas are also observed on the west coast of Sumatra, the south coast of western Java, and Maluku. All of these circulations, convergences, and confluences - as a byproduct of the tropical cyclone - could increase the potential for the growth of rain clouds in the vicinity.
