TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin, said the government is currently handling a forest fire at Mount Tangkuban Perahu. In a statement he shared, Bey Machmudin said the fire first emerged on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at around 09:20 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. West
Bandung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that the forest fire hit around 5 hectares of land. Until Thursday morning, the fire was still ablaze.
Bey Machmudin requested everyone to help prevent forest fires, including avoiding throwing away cigarette butts carelessly. The cause of the current fire at Mount Tangkuban Perahu, however, is still uncertain.
Previously, the Head of the Geological Agency, Muhammad Wafid, ensured that smoke coming from around the crater zone of Mount Tangkuban Perahu was not caused by an eruption. “Residents were worried about whether the smoke was related to volcanic activities of Mount Tangkuban Perahu,” he said on Wednesday evening.
Wafid said the CCTV used to monitor Mount Tangkuban Perahu’s activity recorded a bright light located above the new crater near Upas Hills in the early hours of Wednesday. In the morning, the same CCTV camera recorded thin white smoke twice at 05:51 a.m. and 09:20 a.m.
In the afternoon, PT GRPP, the manager of Mount Tangkuban Parahu tourism, and residents reported a forest fire at the same location.
