TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tech giant GoTo Group has significantly boosted the productivity of its engineering team by partnering with Microsoft Indonesia to utilize GitHub Copilot, a leading AI-powered solution for developers worldwide.
GitHub Copilot, equipped with advanced AI capabilities, enhances engineer productivity and satisfaction by offering real-time coding suggestions, providing comprehensive support throughout the coding process through chat features, and simplifying complex coding concepts using everyday language.
Hans Patuwo, GoTo's Chief Operating Officer, announced that since June 2024, nearly a thousand GoTo engineers have begun adopting GitHub Copilot, with a full implementation plan expected by mid-October 2024.
“This AI-based coding assistant empowers our engineers to improve code quality and accomplish more in less time,” Hans said in a statement on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
According to him, GoTo engineers have reported substantial time savings, averaging over seven hours per week. This increased efficiency allows them to innovate faster and deliver greater value to GoTo's users.
In addition to time savings, GoTo engineers have accepted 30 percent of the code recommendations provided by GitHub Copilot within their first month of using the AI solution. This acceptance rate is notably high, surpassing the global average of 26-30 percent.
Naya Hodi, GoTo's Merchant Gateway Manager, highlighted GitHub Copilot's effectiveness in reducing syntax errors and providing a valuable autocomplete feature. “By leveraging GitHub Copilot, our team can streamline repetitive tasks and code more efficiently. This allows me and the team to focus on the more complex aspects of software development”
Andrew Boyd, General Manager, Digital Natives & Startups at Microsoft Asia, emphasized Microsoft's pleasure in supporting GoTo's mission to empower progress through technology solutions that enable individuals to thrive in the digital economy. By integrating GitHub Copilot into their engineers' workflows, GoTo empowers their teams to innovate faster, increase productivity, and ultimately deliver more value to their users.
“Trust and technology go hand in hand, and this collaboration underscores our shared commitment to accelerating inclusive digital transformation, as part of Microsoft's Empower Indonesia initiative,” Boyd concluded.
