TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will implement an electric motorbike incentive policy starting March 20, 2023, applicable to products with a minimum Domestic Content Level (TKDN) of 40 percent. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the policy prompts a number of electric motorcycle manufacturers to try to increase TKDN.
"A number of manufacturers have informed us that with government assistance for [electric motorbike] purchase, they will immediately increase their TKDN to a minimum of 40 percent," the minister said as Antara reported on Wednesday, March 8.
However, Agus did not reveal the names of those manufacturers.
"I can't tell you, but everything is an ongoing process. There have been several manufacturers who have stated that we will increase [the TKDN] for motorcycles to 40 percent," he added.
There are currently only three electric motorcycle brands that are eligible to receive the incentive, namely Selis, Volta and Gesits.
Agus added that subsidy for purchasing electric motorbikes is prioritized for buyers from the MSME sector. The incentive is also given at limited quotas, only 200,000 units for new electric motorbikes and 50,000 units for old bikes converted to electric.
