Pertamina Director Apologizes for Plumpang Depot Fire

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of state oil company PT Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, apologized for the fuel pipe fire at Plumpang Depot, North Jakarta, on Friday night, March 3. She said that her office would mitigate the incident in cooperation with various parties.
"Pertamina will provide the best service for the affected people," Nicke said in a written statement received on Friday night.
Her side would also investigate the incident through a joint team from PT Pertamina Patra Niaga and related institutions. "We'll conduct internal evaluation and reflection thoroughly to prevent similar incidents from recurring."
Pertamina ensured that the fuel supply is safe with the backup supply from the closes fuel stations, namely TBBM Tanjung Gerem, TBBM Cikampek, and TBBM Ujung Berung. "The fuel supply will also be secured from Cilacap and Balongan refineries distributed through the sea to Tanjung Priok fuel station," Nicke explained.
Pertamina Plumpang Depot caught fire on Friday at 20:11. It originated from a fuel pipe at the complex and spread to residential areas. Until 00:30 on Saturday, March 4, the death toll was recorded at 17, comprising 15 adults and 2 children.
The 17 victims spread in different locations. Eight at Tugu Koja Hospital, two at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, seven at Polri Kramat Jati Hospital.
The fire also injured 50 people; 49 adults and 1 child. The victims are also treated in different locations, namely at Mulyasari Hospital, Tugu Hospital, and Pelabuhan Hospital.
