Pertamina Plumpang Depot Catches Fire; 17 Died, 639 Evacuated

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency reported on Saturday, 17 deaths in a recent fire at state oil and gas firm Pertamina Plumpang Depot in North Jakarta. BPBD Jakarta Acting chief Isnawa Adji also reported that 49 people suffer severe injuries and 2 people with medium injuries.
Tempo received the data at 3 a.m. today. Isnawa, however, had yet to release the exact cause of the fire that was sourced from Pertamina's gas pipe. "[We're] still collecting the data," he said in a written statement on Saturday, March 4.
The Pertamina Plumpang Depot caught fire on Friday, March 3, at around 20:11 Jakarta time. Several houses located at Jalan Tanah Merah Bawah in Koja Sub-district, North Jakarta were also burnt.
The authorities set up several evacuation posts. Isnawa recorded the number of evacuees in several locations. Indonesia Red Cross (PMI) in North Jakarta accommodates 132 people, while 63 people evacuate to As-Sholihin Mosque, and 52 people stay in the Rawa Badak Selatan sector office.
Next, the Golkar Walang building accommodates 258 people, there are 74 people at North Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office, and 60 people at Al Muhajirin Mosque. Meanwhile, the authorities still collecting data on evacuees at RPTRA Rasella and Rawa Badak Stadium.
The fire that blazed the people's houses and Pertamina Depot has been put down. But the fire extinguishing process was still ongoing until 3 in the morning.
