TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal advocacy team of Ferdy Sambo, Putri Candrawathi, Kuat Ma'ruf, and Ricky Rizal filed an appeal against the South Jakarta District Court's ruling in the premeditated murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J.
South Jakarta District Court Public Relations official Djuyamto confirmed that the requests have been registered at the court's Public Service Information System (SIPP).
“The appeal for Defendant Kuat Ma'ruf is submitted on February 15, 2023, while for Defendants Ferdy Sambo, Putri Candrawathi, and Ricky Rizal were submitted on February 16, 2023,” said Djuyamto in a written statement, Thursday, February 16, 2023.
Kuat Ma'ruf's attorney Irwan Irawan and Ricky Rizal’s attorney Zena Dinda Defega confirmed the matter. “If the executor can get a low sentence, we hope that in appeals, the judge can consider conscience and trial facts, instead of public opinion anymore because our legal system is not a jury system,” said Dinda referring to another defendant Richard Eliezer’s sentence.
The legal team of Ferdy Sambo and Putri Candrawathi, however, has not yet responded to Tempo's message regarding their client's appeal against the court’s verdict.
On February 13, the South Jakarta District Court led by presiding Judge Wahyu Iman Santoso handed down a death sentence to Ferdy Sambo, a harsher sentence than the public prosecutor's demand of life imprisonment. Putri Candrawathi, meanwhile, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, harsher than the prosecutor’s demand of eight years in prison.
On the verdict trial on February 14, Kuat Ma'ruf got 15 years in prison and Ricky Rizal got 13 years in prison, harsher than the prosecutor's demands, namely 8 years in prison each.
On February 15, defendant Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu was sentenced to one year and six months in prison or less than the 12 years demanded by the public prosecutor. The panel of judges considered his role as a justice collaborator, his remorse, and forgiveness from the victim's family as mitigating factors in deciding his sentence.
