TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday welcomed the president of the World Water Council Loic Fauchon dan their delegates at the Merdeka Palace. This meeting comes as Indonesia will host the World Water Forum 2024 set to be held in Bali.
“The president said water now has become a global problem, and crisis, water, food, and energy, all of them come from water. That is the main source,” said Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono at the State Palace on February 15.
During the meeting, President Jokowi revealed that one of the reasons the government had constructed 61 dams to overcome the water crisis in Indonesia, which was applauded by the council’s president, Minister Basuki claims.
Moreover, Minister Basuki said the water council supports Indonesia in hosting the international forum has been kickstarted with a meeting held by the World Water Council Governors on February 15-16 which has 56 members. This event in total will be attended by 1,400 participants, initially.
“Hopefully this kick-off meeting will go on as planned and be able to mobilize every stakeholder in the water sector to be more aware of the problems related to water resources,” said the Minister.
