TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Supporters of Ferdy Sambo, former head of the National Police's Professional and Security Division (Propam) being tried for the murder of Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat alias Brigadier J, came to the South Jakarta District Court today, February 13, for the hearing of the verdict. Around five people, all of whom looked quite young, sat in the waiting room of the courthouse wearing black shirts with Ferdy Sambo's faces on them.
The back of their T-shirts say 'A Drop of Hope in a Congested Courtroom', which is the title of Sambo's defense. When the defendant entered the courtroom shortly before 10:00 a.m., they called out to him expressing support. They refused to be interviewed by the media.
Ferdy Sambo and his wife Putri Candrawathi will be sentenced today in a trial led by Wahyu Iman Santoso as the presiding judge. Along with three other defendants: Richard Eliezer, Ricky Rizal, and Kuat Ma'ruf, they are accused of conducting a criminal offense in the murder of Yosua, Ferdy Sambo's aide.
On January 17, Ferdy Sambo was sentenced to life in prison for his role in masterminding the premeditated murder of Yosua, his own aide. Sambo is also considered convoluted and does not admit his actions, and his conduct is deemed to have tarnished the police's reputation.
Putri Candrawathi was sentenced to eight years in prison for assisting the plan to kill Yosua. This is the same sentence that the prosecutors demanded for defendants Ricky Rizal and Kuat Ma'ruf.
Meanwhile, Richard Eliezer is being demanded 12 years in prison for his participation in the murder as the one who pulled the trigger on Brigadier J.
