Dieng Culture Festival 2023 to Return in August

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dieng Culture Festival is one of the annual cultural performances that always attracts tourists to flock to Dieng Plateau in Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java. This year, the event is slated to be held at the end of August.

“To be precise, on August 25-27, 2023 with the theme of The Journey,” said the Head of the Dieng Pandawa Tourism Awareness Community (Pokdarwis) Alif Faozi on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

On Tuesday, Pokdarwis held a soft launching and a celebration event for the previous year's festival. Alif said his side had just set the festival date.

The concept and supporting events such as the dreadlocked hair-cutting ritual would be discussed later. However, Alif ensured that this year's event would always be better to achieve the four goals, namely cultural preservation, community empowerment, promotion, and social activities.

Alif also recalled the long journey of the festival which started from the farming community in Dieng and then established the Pokdarwis Dieng Pandawa that pioneered the festival as an effort to promote the region’s potential cultural tourism. 

“It was initially a small activity funded with a contribution of Rp50,000 because our concept is mutual cooperation,” he explained.

The Dieng Culture Festival is usually enlivened with a variety of events, ranging from traditional art performances, 'Jazz Above the Clouds' music concert, to a sky lantern show. One of the attractive events is the dreadlocked hair-cutting ritual.
