TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially hinted at halting any form of coronavirus social restriction policies such as the PPKM and PSBB before the start of 2023. Confirmed this at a press conference today, the President said he will wait for a thorough study that would help the decision provided by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
He also said such a crucial decision will be based on a report from the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto who also assumes the position of the Covid-19 handling chief committee.
“I gave them the target [to complete] the studies and calculations and should arrive at my desk this week,” said the President in Wednesday’s press conference.
Minister Airlangga, who was also present at the press conference said he had communicated to the President about Indonesia’s readiness to put an end to the coronavirus social restriction PPKM. Airlangga believes Indonesia is categorized at level one on the World Health Organization’s rank.
Airlangga said Indonesia’s status on the coronavirus had evolved from a pandemic to an endemic but to put a halt to the PPKM, he insisted, must be confirmed through a health survey by the Health Ministry.
As reported earlier today, President Jokowi at the Indonesian Economic Outlook 2022 event hinted at revoking the coronavirus social restriction known as the PPKM and PSBB policies.
