TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has mapped out a number of locations to celebrate New Year's Eve in order to unravel the potential for overcrowding.
“In Jakarta, there are several points prepared by the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency,” said Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park (JIEP) in East Jakarta, Wednesday, December 7, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
Heru said the locations for the new year’s celebration include Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta and the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Central Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Deputy Governor Marullah Matali said the city administration would pay close attention to the status of the public mobility restriction or PPKM for the new year’s celebration because such an event may boost people’s euphoria after a two-year absence in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PPKM status, he added, will be renewed on December 20, 2022, and that will be valid until January 2, 2023.
At present, the pandemic situation is said to be under control albeit it needs to be adjusted to the PPKM status. “We’ll see it later. There is instruction, a decision from the ministry, from the central government regarding this which will surely be taken into consideration,” said the former Jakarta Secretary.
Previously on Monday, December 5, Marullah stated that the provincial government banned the use of fireworks during the 2023 New Year's Eve celebration. This policy will be the same as the previous year as noted in Governor’s Decree No. 1473 on PPKM Level 1 in a bid to prevent COVID-19 transmission.
