TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared as a speaker at the B20 Summit Indonesia series of events. Although his presence appears virtually, Musk delivers a lot of material in the forum, one of which is about cheap electric cars.
During the discussion, one of the participants asked Musk about Tesla's plan to make cheap electric car. The participant mentioned the availability of the Tesla Model I, which has a lower price than the Tesla currently being marketed in the country.
In response to the question, the SpaceX CEO admitted that he could not talk much about the possibility of affordable electric car products from Tesla. Musk admitted that Tesla did consider the need for an electric car at an affordable price.
"I cannot say much about Tesla's product development in the future. But in our opinion, developing vehicles that are much more affordable would make a lot of sense. We have to do something about it," he said.
As it is known, the current cheapest variant of Tesla's electric car, namely the Model 3, is still marketed at a price of more than Rp1 billion in Indonesia. Even electric cars with prices above Rp 700 million are still lacking in demand in the country.
The broad electric car market for Indonesian demand is in the price range of Rp200 to Rp300 million. For example, the Wuling Air ev, which is sold at that price range alone, has now sold nearly 3,000 units until October 2022.
