TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Al Azhar University academic and political observer Ujang Komarudin on Sunday commented on the communication strategy that is adopted by the acting governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, which he deemed needs “improving.”
"The matter of communication with the media is still not enough, not good enough," said Ujang to Tempo, Sunday, November 6.
He believes that if the acting governor produces acceptable policies, it would translate to better media communication. "But because the policy is haphazard, 'aimlessly beating here and there,’ it is difficult to be able to objectively explain to the media. The media would of course have critical notes aimed towards Heru," he said.
The political observer believes that the replacement for Anies Baswedan must improve his communication style with the media to better disseminate policies to the public. Ujang said it would prevent causing friction or disputes with policymakers if his policies do not meet the expectations of the people.
“The media is also crucial in the context of bridging the inputs and criticisms from Jakarta residents to Heru. Until now, the communication is still not quite there," he said.
Ujang believes Haru’s position in the office has shown signs of reckless leadership which he claims is evident in replacing the president director of MRT Jakarta Mohamad Aprindy without proper evaluation.
