Jokowi to Visit Kanjuruhan Tragedy Victims on Thursday, Says Mahfud MD

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD revealed that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will visit the victims of the Kanjuruhan stadium tragedy in Malang, East Java. The President will also hand over compensation to the families of the victims.
“Inshallah in the next two days, the President will stop by and hand over the social assistance as a form of sympathy and empathy as well as the government's attention to the victims of the football tragedy in Kanjuruhan,” said Mahfud at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
He said the state head will directly disburse Rp50 million in compensation to the families of the victims. The death toll in this incident amounted to 125 people.
“The compensation will be given by the President in East Java, maybe in Malang or Surabaya. It’s being prepared,” Mahfud added.
The tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang occurred after the football match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya on Saturday night, October 1, 2022. This is said to be one of the world’s deadliest stadium disasters.
The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed on Sunday night that 125 people died in the incident. He also said the police are still conducting thorough investigations.
