11 Million Cyber Threats Detected in Indonesia Apart from Bjorka

21 September 2022 11:03 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe case of data leak committed by an anonymous hacker under an account name Bjorka in an online forum breached.to is not the only cyber threat detected Indonesia.

A global cybersecurity company Kaspersky detected 11,08 million cyber threats in the second quarter of 2022 on the computers of Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) members in the country.

Kaspersky Southeast Asia General Manager Yeo Siang Tiong reported that 25.2 percent of users were attacked by online threats originating from websites. “With internet penetration which is quite high in Indonesia, we see cybercriminals are still lurking in this country as a profitable target,” he told Tempo on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

However, the number decreased compared to last year in the same period, with a total of 18,48 million cyber threats. According to data from the Russian-based firm, the figure also dropped by 6.09 percent compared to the first quarter of 2022 with 11,80 million cyber threats.

A study by Kaspersky also showed that 96 percent of digital payment users in Indonesia are aware of online threats. 64 percent of them believed that a security solution could secure their data and money online.

However, only 32 percent had a security system installed on their devices prior to the possible attack. “There is a huge gap between awareness and action that we must address immediately,” he said.

He also underlined that maintaining cyber security is a shared responsibility of governments, consumers, and online users, as well as private and public companies.
